ALL THESE LIVES by Sarah Wylie Release Day!

I'm back on the Internet for a good- scratch that- FANTASTIC reason today...

It's the official release day of ALL THESE LIVES, the brilliant debut novel by my best friend Sarah Wylie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd honestly include even more exclamation points and TALKING IN ALL CAPS in this post because I'm so GENUINELY IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK, but I want to take a moment to really, really talk about it.

Here's a brief synopsis if you aren't familiar with the book yet:

Sixteen-year-old Dani is convinced she has nine lives. As a child she twice walked away from situations where she should have died. But Dani’s twin, Jena, isn’t so lucky.  She has cancer and might not even be able to keep her one life. Dani’s father is in denial. Her mother is trying to hold it together and prove everything’s normal.  And Jena is wasting away.  To cope, Dani sets out to rid herself of all her extra lives.  Maybe they’ll be released into the universe and someone who wants to live more than she does will get one.  Someone like Jena.  But just when Dani finds herself at the breaking point, she’s faced with a startling realization.  Maybe she doesn’t have nine lives after all.  Maybe she really only ever had one.

From the beginning of the book, I was invested in Dani and her family.  None of them are perfect, and all their quirks and mistakes add up to create great realistic tension. And Dani is the Queen of Snark. I loved that even when she felt low, confused, and angry, she tried to prove that she wasn't any of those things by hiding behind her wit.

The dynamic she has with her sister is heartbreaking but fresh and honest. As an older sister myself, it hit home for me in ways I wasn't expecting. I stayed up until 2:30 in the morning to finish this book, and by then I was a little teary puddle.

If you like Wintergirls or The Fault in Our Stars, you will love this book.  And I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with the author, but because the writing is truly breathtaking and the characters are masterfully developed.

Happy Release Day, Sarah! I'm so, so proud of you, and can't wait for more <3
